茨城県植物園のバラ園に入るとバラの香りが漂ってきました。バラには赤・黄色・ピンク・白・オレンジなどの色調の異なったものが見られますが、これは芝生を背景にして昨日撮ったプリンセス・ドゥ・モナコで、アイボリー色のピンクの覆輪で、まれに見る綺麗なバラです。

When I entered the rose garden inside Ibaraki Prefectural Botanical Gardens, the fragrance of roses came drifting in the air. Roses can be found in different shades of red, yellow, pink, white, orange and so forth. This is Princess de Monaco rose I shot with the grass in the background yesterday. It is a strikingly beautiful rose of ivory edged pink.

このバラは一見するとプリンセス・ドゥ・モナコに似ていますが、カリフォルニア・ドリーミングと呼ばれていて、ほのかな香りがしてピンクが濃いように見えます。これは茨城県フラワーパークで昨日撮ったものですが、ここには約800種類、30,000 本ほどバラがあるといわれています。今年は９月20日から11月４日までバラ祭りが開かれています。バラはうってつけの被写体となります。

This rose looks like Prince de Monaco rose at first glance, but it is called California Dreamin' rose, which is enhanced with delicate fragrance and looks very pink. This is a photo taken at Ibaraki Prefectural Flower Park yesterday. This rose garden is home to approximately 30,000 rose bushes in nearly 800 different varieties. Rose Festival will be held between September 20 and November 4, 2019. Roses make perfect photographic subjects.

青空に映える [写真]
この時期には既にあちらこちらでバラが見られます。明るい太陽の下では明るい部分と濃い影になっているところがあったので、影になっている部分に光を反射させるためにバラの茎の下の方にレフ板を置いて、この写真を撮ってみました。

Roses are already seen here and there at this time of year. Since there were strong highlights and deep shadows in bright sun, I placed the reflector under the rose stem to bounce the light back into the shadows, and shot this photo.

夏は花火を見たり写真を撮ったりする季節ですね。花火の写真を撮る際には、いつも風上に場所を取るようにしていますが、そうすることで花火の煙が全て自分がいる反対側に流れて、次の花火がよく見えます。花火の写真を撮るには三脚にカメラを設置して長秒露光を利用します。この写真は絞りをf/11にして露光時間は３秒でした。

Summer is the season for viewing and photographing fireworks. I always try to position myself upwind when taking fireworks photos. That way, all the smoke from the fireworks will blow away from me, and successive fireworks will remain clearly visible. To capture a photo of fireworks, I set my camera up on a tripod and use a long exposure time. About this photo, I set my aperture to f/11 and the exposure time was three seconds.
夏の彩り [写真]
花が好きな人にとっても庭師にとっても雨は通常は歓迎で、植物に定期的に水をあげることも必要です。しかし、雨が降りすぎると植物が病気の原因になったり傷むこともあります。この写真は那須塩原にある「ハンターマウンテンゆりパーク」で昨日撮ったものですが、このあたりは特にこの時期には時々大雨が降るので、多くのユリが土砂降りでダメージを受けていて、無傷の花を見つけるのが大変でした。

To flower-loving people and gardeners as well, rain is generally a welcome blessing. Watering the plants on a regular basis is also necessary. However, if it rains overly, the water can cause diseases and hurt many plants. This picture was taken at Hunter Mountain Lily Park in Nasu-Shiobara yesterday. It rains heavily in this neck of the woods from time to time, especially at this time of year. A large number of lilies were damaged by downpour, so it was hard to find undamaged flowers.

この時期はどこに行っても非常に蒸し暑いですが、滝のそばは真夏でも涼しくて快適です。ここは日光の中禅寺湖のそばにあります。シャッター速度が遅いと三脚を使ってもシャッターを押す手で少し手振れを起こすこともあるので、この写真はレリーズを使い撮っています。

No matter where you go, it is extremely muggy at this time of year, but it is cool and comfortable by the waterfall even in the middle of summer. This is located near Lake Chuzenji in Nikko. About this shot, I used a remote release because even with a tripod, my hand on the camera could introduce a bit of blur when dealing with slow shutter speeds.
心の安らぎ [写真]
この時期はあちらこちらでペチュニアをよく見かけます。ほぼあらゆる色や大きさの花が何百種類もあるといわれ、大部分のペチュニアは日差しがたっぷりとある方を好みますが、真夏は半日陰の方が生き生きとしていて花が綺麗に咲きます。同じ花が光の状態によって違って見えますが、この写真は逆光で撮ってみました。

At this time of year, petunias are often seen here and there. It is said that hundreds of varieties exist in nearly every color and size. Most petunia varieties prefer full sun, but in midsummer, partial shade will keep them refreshed and blooming better. The same flowers will look different in various lighting environments. About this picture, I took it against the light.
華やか [写真]
花火の光跡をとらえるには数秒間の露光時間が必要になります。この写真のシャッター速度は９秒で、長秒露光では手振れを避けるために三脚が欠かせません。シャッターを押す際にぶれることがあるのでレリーズも欠かせません。これを使うことでカメラに触れずにシャッターが切れます。

A few seconds of exposure will be needed to capture the movement of fireworks. About this picture, the shutter speed was 9 seconds and in long exposure photography, a tripod is absolutely essential to avoid camera shake. Since pressing the shutter can introduce movement, the use of a cable release is also essential. With this, the camera is fired without having to touch the shutter.

これは那須塩原にある「ハンターマウンテンゆりパーク」で撮ったものです。「2019ゆり博」が７月13日から８月25日まで開かれ、50種類約400万本のユリが咲くそうです。この公園は標高約1,300メートルの所にあるので夏でも比較的涼しいです。

This is a picture photographed at Hunter Mountain Lily Park in Nasu-Shiobara. It is said that "2019 Lily Exhibition" is held between July 13 and August 25, and that some 4 million lilies of 50 varieties bloom.
