見頃 [写真]
ここは茨城県石岡の常陸風土記の丘で、ここには早咲きのものを含めて様々な種類があり約500本の桜の木があると言われています。４月10日は桜が満開でした。

This is a place called Hitachi Fudoki-No-Oka in Ishioka, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is said that there are about 500 cherry trees here with a mixture of varieties, including some early flowering varieties. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom on April 10.
儚さ [写真]
天気予報によると地域によっては桜が満開を迎えているところがあります。大部分の日本の桜は淡いピンクを帯びていますが、白や濃いピンクや黄色さえあります。この桜の名前はジンダイアケボノと呼ばれていて、淡いピンクがかって、芝生を背景にしてマクロレンズで撮ってみました。

According to the weather forecast, cherry blossoms have reached peak bloom in some areas. While most Japanese cherry blossoms are a shade of pale pink, they can be white, dark pink, or even yellow. About the name of these cherry blossoms, it is called Jindai-Akebono, which is a pale pinkish color. I shot this photo with a macro lens with the grass in the background.

鏡のように [写真]
最初は車中泊を考えていたのですが、あまりにも寒さが厳しかったので、ホテルに宿泊することにして、翌朝早朝に山中湖に向かいました。富士山の撮影をするために４時半の頃にお気に入りの場所に到着すると、風がなくとても穏やかで、湖は鏡のようで富士山が写っていました。

I was thinking about car camping at first, but it was too cold to sleep in the car. Consequently I made up my mind to stay at a hotel and left for Lake Yamanaka early the next morning. I got to one of my favorite spots around four thirty to shoot Mt. Fuji. Since it was very calm with no wind, the lake was like a mirror showing Mt. Fuji.

雨上がり [写真]
桜の見頃は僅か数日しか続かなくて、正確にいつ見頃になるかは毎年異なりますが、４月５日に茨城県笠間の愛宕山を訪れると桜は満開でした。カメラの露出補正を使いプラス２の補正をすると、ずっと明るい画像になりました。綺麗な桜を見ると誰もが写真家になってしまいますね。

About cherry blossoms, the peak bloom period lasts only a few days, and precisely when it happens varies each year. When I visited Mt. Atago in Kasama, Ibaraki Prefecture on April 5, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. I used the exposure compensation feature of my camera and dialed +2 exposure value, which resulted in a much brighter image. Everyone turns into a photographer when they see beautiful cherry blossoms.

ブルーアワー [写真]
これは那珂川にかかる新那珂川大橋で、減光フィルターと三脚を使ってブルーアワーの時間帯に一昨日撮影したものです。三脚を使って長秒露光に設定することで、川の流れを滑らかでシルクのように暈かすことができます。ここで利用したシャッター速度は30秒でした。

This is Shin-Nakagawa-Ohashi Bridge over the Naka River. It was shot with an ND filer and a tripod during the blue hour the day before yesterday. By using a tripod and setting a long shutter speed, one is able to blur the motion of the water such that it appears very smooth and silky. The shutter speed used here was 30 seconds.

女優 [写真]
今年は予想よりも早くバラが開花しているようです。花はソフトな光の時に一番綺麗に見える傾向にあるので、曇っている日に芝生を背景にしてこの写真を撮ってみました。プリンセス・ドゥ・モナコと呼ばれているバラは淡いピンクの覆輪で微香性でクリームのような白い花です。

It seems that the roses are in bloom earlier than expected this year. Since flowers tend to look best in soft light, I shot this photo with the grass as a background on an overcast day. Princess de Monaco Rose features lightly-scented creamy white flowers with light pink edges.

鮮明 [写真]
花を撮るのに一番の光は曇っている日や早朝や午後の遅い時間です。このバラはクリームのような白い花弁に赤の覆輪が入っていてジュビレ・デュ・プリンス・ドゥ・モナコと呼ばれていて、アメリカではチェリー・パフェとして知られています。

The best light to photograph flowers occurs overcast days, early in the morning or late in the afternoon. With regard to this rose, it is called Jubile du Prince de Monaco Rose which is creamy white with red edging. This rose is known as Cherry Parfait Rose in the United States.

頭を雲の上 [写真]
空気が澄んでいると山梨県にある開運山の山頂からは富士山の素晴らしい景色が見られ、今年の２月に訪れたときには富士山の頭が雲海の上にくっきりと浮かび上がっていました。開運山の標高は1,785メートルあるので、真冬ともなると肌を刺すような寒さです。

The peak of Mt. Kaiun in Yamanashi Prefecture offers a splendid view of Mt. Fuji when the air is crisp and clear. When I visited last February, the top of Mt. Fuji stood out sharply above a sea of clouds. Since Mt. Kaiun is 1,785 meters above sea level, the cold is penetrating your skin in midwinter.

雲海にそびえる [写真]
富士山は秋から冬にかけて一番よく見えて、この写真は山梨県の新道峠から撮ったものです。訪れたときには富士山が雲海の上にくっきりと浮かび上がっていましたが、防寒具に身を固めたとはいえ、そこは凍るような寒さでした。

Mt. Fuji is best visible from autumn to winter. As for this photo, it was shot from Shindo Pass in Yamanashi Prefecture. Mt. Fuji stood out sharply above a sea of clouds when I visited. It was freezing there though I protected myself against the cold.

逆光 [写真]
エレガント・レディーと呼ばれているバラはベルベットのような花びらに、ピンクを帯びた赤の覆輪にクリームのような白で、この写真は10月31日に「ひたち海浜公園」で撮ったものです。風を避ける一番の方法は風が吹く可能性が少ない早朝に撮影することですが、公園は通常午前９時頃の開園なので、風を避けるために段ボールやレフをよく使っています。

Elegant Lady Rose has velvety-petaled blooms and is creamy white edged pinkish red. About this photo, it was shot on October 31 at Hitachi Seaside Park. The easiest way to avoid wind is to do your photography early in the morning when there is less chance of wind, but public parks usually open around nine in the morning, so I often use a piece of cardboard or a reflector to avoid wind.
