雪割草

　まだ真冬の１月にもかかわらず、庭の一角に雪割草が一輪だけ咲いていました。雪解けを待って小さな可憐な花を付けるので雪割草という名前が付いているそうですが、見頃は３月中旬～４月上旬頃だと思います。この写真は神奈川県相模原市にある「城山・かたくりの里」で去年撮影したものです。高さは１０センチほどでしょうか。カラフルな花で森が明るくなったようです。
It is still January, in the middle of winter, but a bird's-eye primrose is in bloom in my garden. A bird's-eye primrose is a diminutive plant which is about 4 inches tall and normally flowers between the middle of March and the beginning of April in Japan. This is the photo I took at Shiroyama Katakuri-no-sato in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture last year. The woods seemed to be enlivened by the colorful flowers.
